Mr. Art Christman, a resident at Valle Verde, is a Director of the ABHOW and Cornerstone Boards. He was President of the Valle Verde Residents’ Council, President of the ABHOW Association of CCRC Resident Presidents and a member of the Valle Verde Advisory Board, where he chaired the Environmental Services Committee and served on the Finance and Executive Committees.
He has chaired the Investment Committee and served on the Ethics, Audit and Finance Committees of the ABHOW Board. He currently serves on the Compensation Committee of the ABHOW Board and the Finance Committee of the Cornerstone Board. Mr. Christman served on the Board of the Central Coast Commission for Senior Citizens Area Agency on Aging and was a resident member of the State of California Continuing Care Contract Statutes Revision Task Force.

Mr. Christman is a retired scientist. He worked as a senior physicist and department director at SRI International and as a scientific advisor for the U.S. Army. He served as a naval officer in the Pacific Theater during World War II and subsequently as a staff member at the George Washington University, the University of Maryland and the Johns Hopkins University.

Mr. Christman earned his Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in physics from the Pennsylvania State University. The rank of Meritorious Executive in the Senior Executive Service of the United States of America was conferred by President Reagan in 1985. He received the Gold Medal Department of the Army Decoration for Exceptional Civilian Service at a military honors retirement ceremony in 1987. Mr. Christman received the 2002 ABHOW Governance Award for his contributions to American Baptist Homes of the West and the 2004 California Association of Homes and Services for the Aging Trustee of the Year Award.(Board Member since 1997- Liaison to Valle Verde in Santa Barbara.)
