Action Learning Projects

Since 2010, ABHOW has offered a comprehensive leadership training program specifically designed for nominated and selected team members to prepare themselves for leadership in the future.

Leadership ABHOW is a year-long growth and development experience to inspire and prepare leaders of today and tomorrow. The vision of Leadership ABHOW is to create a new generation of leaders who have both the compassion and competence to take ABHOW to new heights of service excellence.

ABHOW is committed to providing leadership development within the organization to ensure an ongoing pool of emerging leaders. The training is open to any team member (Fellow) regardless of position or work experience. It is important for selected Fellows to demonstrate potential rather than position or title within ABHOW.

The year-long program features four three-day training sessions where Fellows are engaged in ongoing learning experiences including leadership development lectures, exercises, visits to ABHOW affordable housing and continuing care retirement communities and technical training. The experience allows opportunities for intimate conversations with leaders in ABHOW and in the field of aging services as well as self-exploration of leadership styles through exercises and readings. To date, 61 ABHOW Fellows have graduated from Leadership ABHOW. Learn more about ABHOW’s facilitators, coaches and adjunct faculty here

A specific component of each Fellow’s participation in Leadership ABHOW is the creation and planning of an Action Learning Project (ALP) throughout the year and a formal presentation of their Action Learning Project in the final session. In the links that follow, you will have opportunities to learn more about the Leadership ABHOW Fellows and the projects they presented.

In addition to the graduating Fellows from Leadership ABHOW, we have listed the Action Learning Projects of ABHOW team members who were chosen as Fellows in both the national LeadingAge Academy and the state LeadingAge EMERGE programs. The current graduating classes of Leadership ABHOW, LeadingAge Academy and EMERGE are listed below.
