Golf Classic Benefits Seniors!
Seniors who live in ABHOW's Affordable Housing Retirement Communities have varied and diverse backgrounds. What most of them have in common at this point in their lives, however, is limited financial resources to support themselves. Most residents rely only on their Social Security benefits, which often fall below $10,000 a year. After paying rent, food, incidental costs, clothing and medications, these residents have virtually no disposable income left. The majority of the residents are widows or divorced women who held service jobs and have no pensions from employment.
Funds raised from previous Classics have provided quality of life amenities to ABHOW affordable housing residents such as:
- 8 paratransit buses serving over 1,000 residents
- Sound system for the hearing impaired
- Funding for a frail elderly care community
- Lunch & activity programs
