Golf Classic Supports Affordable Housing

A great day awaits ABHOW friends Oct. 11 at the 14th Annual ABHOW Foundation Golf Classic. But the special fundraiser for ABHOW affordable housing is already well underway.

Donations are being accepted for the silent and live auctions, which will have an international twist this year, starting with a trip to Paris donated by ABHOW partner Sodexo.

“The auctions are an ideal way for friends as well as residents to contribute to the cause,” says Joe Anderson, the Foundation’s president. “Fine wine, gift baskets and gift cards are some of the things that make great auction items.”

Since 1997, the Golf Classic has raised more than $1 million to support ABHOW’s affordable housing retirement communities. These funds pay for amenities that improve the quality of life for residents. Communities use the Foundation contributions to purchase such equipment as paratransit buses and sound systems and to add new programs like lunch and activities.

“The Golf Classic’s proceeds greatly improve the quality of life for affordable housing residents,” Anderson says. “With their incomes often below $10,000 a year, and most of that going to rent, food, and medications, residents have virtually no disposable income left. The Golf Classic helps ensure that residents enjoy a life and not just a place to live.”

The Golf Classic has become a must-attend for business leaders, golf enthusiasts, and friends of ABHOW. The scramble-format tournament is held at Round Hill Country Club in Alamo, Calif., one of the finest private country clubs in Northern California. For those who choose not to play, a special spa package is available.

The tournament will be followed by cocktails and hors d’oeuvres on the patio plus a silent auction. Round Hill will present a dinner of superior cuisine, with a brief live auction and awards ceremony concluding the day’s event.

One new feature this year: Donate your vehicle, no matter its age or value, and your golf or spa package registration is free.

Online registration is now open by clicking here. To learn more about sponsorship opportunities, contact Suzette Luer, the Foundation’s development coordinator, at 800-222-2469 ext. 7151 or send e-mail to sluer@abhow.com.
