What Is Your Legacy: Spike and Carol Larsen

Almus “Spike” Larsen and his wife Carol are the kind of people you want living next door – generous, unfailingly kind, tried-and-true.

To the Larsens, being a good neighbor means being part of their Judson Park community at all levels, from fellowship to fundraising.  The couple has done plenty of both, serving on resident governance boards and volunteer committees, donating to the Judson Park endowment fund, and spending time with their Des Moines, Wash., friends and neighbors in times of need.

Spike: “We wanted to live in an ABHOW community because they are good places to be – and I know that because I was a CEO in the [senior living] industry for about 27 years. I never worked for ABHOW, but I knew the founder, Harold Bottemiller, and I went to seminary with former ABHOW President Dick Ice. I served on the Valle Verde board of directors when we lived in Santa Barbara and thought we’d live there someday, but our daughter is here in Washington, and we’ve been very pleased with Judson Park.”

Carol:  “This is exactly what we wanted for our retirement. Judson Park is such a beautiful place, and there’s a real feeling that you aren’t alone. This is a community. It’s a good life, and has far exceeded my expectations.”
