Statement of Values and Ethics
A Covenant of Corporate Responsibility
Foundational Beliefs
Our Creator desires all people to experience the goodness of life throughout their lives.
God calls into being organizations, groups, individuals, and communities to help preserve and extend the goodness for which life has been created.
ABHOW has answered the call to stand with people in their search for meaning, dignity, and security.
Every member of the ABHOW family is challenged to take responsibility for cultivating throughout the organization those values, which can bind us together as a moral community and empower us to fulfill the God-given potential of this corporation.
Our Moral Commitments
-
We seek the highest moral standards.
We understand that all the decisions we make have moral implications, and we are committed to be guided in our decision-making by the best insights of our moral traditions. We continually strive to increase our own moral sensitivity and commitment, learning from our mistakes and soliciting input and feedback from others. We seek to incorporate into all policies and practices of the organization the highest ethical standards of our moral traditions. -
We seek integrity in all areas of corporate life.
We are committed to be true to our Mission Statement and open to future opportunities for services. We strive to be truthful in what we say and honest in what we do. We desire to be responsible in our relationships – affirming that which is good in others and demonstrating goodwill, financial integrity, and social responsibility in all we do. -
We are committed to justice and the rights of the individual.
We seek to confront discrimination, actively promoting diversity within ABHOW by creatively turning tensions and differences into new opportunities for understanding our commitment to individuals and society. We desire to provide the environment in which individual freedoms, rights, and responsibilities can be fully enjoyed and exercised by residents, employees and volunteers. We are committed to justice and fairness within the corporation and will advocate for the rights of employees and residents in the larger society. -
We hold individuals and families in the highest respect.
We provide the environment in which residents can live at a high level of personal satisfaction and growth, and can die with dignity. We provide continuing opportunities for residents and their families and friends to achieve and to maintain high quality personal relationships. We are committed to providing the environment in which employees and volunteers can achieve and maintain a high level of personal and job satisfaction. -
We will maintain fiscally and socially responsible business practices.
We commit to responsible financial and policy disclosure. We will promote openness and dialogue in decision-making processes, encouraging residents, employees and others to voice their hopes, concerns, and needs. We will maintain a caring, prudent and effective organization.
Commitment to Diversity and Inclusion
The founding philosophy and continuing strength of ABHOW is its commitment to provide equality care for all residents. Based on the Judeo-Christian principles of care for others, ABHOW strives to provide direction for its boards, management, and team members in areas of inclusion, equal opportunity, and diversity. Beyond the requirements of law, ABHOW subscribes to a higher moral standard of conduct. Those standards are set forth in this statement.
Each person in ABHOW is unique. Differences among people shall have no bearing in the provision or receiving of care within ABHOW communities.
Each person in ABHOW should strive to understand and bridge individual differences in the common pursuit of total resident satisfaction.
With the guidance of its various boards, the management of ABHOW establishes policies to deal directly with issues related to inclusion, equal opportunity, and diversity.
Leadership by example, creation of a proactive environment, and training opportunities are a continuing responsibility of the leaders of the organization.
ABHOW selects its team members solely on the basis of job requirements. Team members are managed and encouraged in their work regardless of real or perceived differences. In addition, team members apply the same principles in their care of all residents. Freedom from all types of discrimination is a right of all team members.
Each resident is entitled to quality care, comfort and security. This includes freedom from any form of discrimination by other residents, the team members or the managers of ABHOW.
Inclusion enables us to strive to have all people represented and included in the ABHOW family, and make all team members feel welcomed and valued, not only for their abilities, but also for their unique qualities and perspectives.
The focus of diversity and inclusion is to create a culture that encourages all team members to be successful, regardless of their differences. We want ABHOW to be regarded as a preferred employer – one that encourages the best and brightest individuals to come work with us. We believe the cultural perspectives of our team members are a competitive strength; increasing innovation and enabling the best performance and care to our residents.
CCRC Health and Wellness Philosophy
The Health and Wellness concept for ABHOW includes physical, spiritual, nutritional, social, intellectual and mental health. This concept is practiced by trained employees in each ABHOW community and outside resources as required.
Promotion of the health, well-being, and independence of each resident throughout the continuum of care is accomplished by assessments and coordination of resources and services.
The promotion of safety, independence, health, and security of residents is a responsibility of those employees providing care and services.
ABHOW is committed to preserving the right of self-determination of each resident to live life to its fullest and to experience death in accordance with his or her own wishes and in accordance with regulatory requirements.
ABHOW will seek opportunities to share our Health and Wellness philosophy with the greater community of older persons, in a manner consistent with our Mission and Philosophy.
Statement of Theological Underpinnings
Consistent with its Mission statement, ABHOW is a faith-based organization motivated by the tradition of caring inherent in its Judeo-Christian heritage. Founded by Baptists, ABHOW endeavors to honor God in all that it does. Offering its services on a non-sectarian basis, ABHOW expects its employees to subscribe only to its tradition of caring. While ABHOW does not promote a particular religious doctrine among its residents and employees, it is affiliated with American Baptist Churches USA and seeks to provide a Christian environment in its communities.
